Academic Scholarships and Tuition Assistance
Tuition assistance for the 2011-12 school year totaled about $1.395 million, with about 48% of the student body receiving some form of aid.
Some of the assistance is in the form of merit scholarships, for which financial need is not a prerequisite. These academic scholarships are based on elementary school performance and December entrance test scores. Merit scholarships may be awarded to the student who is the highest scorer from his/her Catholic elementary or middle school. Additional scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic performance, financial need, or a combination of both factors. Several Catholic home and school associations and a number of Catholic parishes award scholarships to their students who enroll at Northwest Catholic.
Tuition assistance based on financial need is determined with the help of an assessment by the Private School Aid Service (PSAS). In January, Northwest Catholic mails a copy of the financial aid form to all students who have applied for admission. Students' families must complete and mail the form to PSAS in early February. The NWC school code is 1066. A copy of the Student Aid Form is available here. A copy in Spanish is available here. Instructions on how to fill out the form can be found here.
Over the past two decades, alumni, parents and friends have chosen to honor an individual or a family while helping students in financial need by funding an endowed scholarship. A portion of the annual earnings ensures that needy students can take advantage of all the educational opportunities that Northwest Catholic has to offer. Endowed scholarships may be initiated with a gift of $25,000. Annual scholarships may be initiated with a gift of $5,000 or more, provided it is the donor's intent to make a long-term commitment.
