Northwest Catholic Home to Two National Merit Semifinalists
Posted 09/12/2018 08:33AM

On September 12th the National Merit Scholarship Program released the names of this year’s National Merit Semifinalists. Michael Foster, son of Dr. Lisa and Robert Foster of Wethersfield, and Meghan O’Shea, daughter of Laura and Maurice O’Shea of West Hartford, are among the elite.

Over 1.6 million students in more than 22,000 high schools across the country entered the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2017 PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test), also known as NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test). The pool of Semifinalists is comprised of less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors.

Northwest Catholic’s Michael Foster and Meghan O’Shea are among the esteemed group of 16,000 Semifinalists in this year’s National Merit Scholarship Program. Students awarded the title of Semifinalist will now compete to become a Merit Scholar.

This spring the National Merit Scholarship Program will announce which college-bound students will receive a portion of its $31 million scholarship fund, money provided by hundreds of businesses and universities who share NMSC’s goals of recognizing the nation’s most academically accomplished.

To become Finalists, Michael and Meghan and their school, Northwest Catholic, will submit a comprehensive scholarship application, which will detail the students’ academic records, participation in activities, leadership abilities, and more.

Northwest Catholic High School congratulates Michael Foster and Meghan O’Shea as well as all the National Merit Semifinalists across Connecticut and the U.S.
