South Catholic Connections

Joe Reilly was an iconic basketball/baseball coach and teacher at South Catholic High School who impacted the lives of many students and athletes throughout Greater Hartford during his Hall of Fame career. His values and efforts reflect the true ideals of South Catholic. This tournament is a tribute to his life and an ongoing commitment to Catholic Secondary Education in his spirit.

Proceeds of the tournament are directed toward named scholarships for qualified Northwest Catholic and East Catholic High School seniors. The tournament has been held at Indian Hill Country Club in Newington, CT. Cost was $125.00 per person and includes 18 holes (scramble format), cart, buffet dinner (Francesco’s on Franklin Ave., Hartford), a raffle and prizes.  Sponsorship opportunities are available at the following levels:  

• Platinum Sponsor - $1,000 and above (4 golfers and sign on the course)
• Gold Sponsor - $500   (2 golfers and sign on the course)
• Silver Sponsor - $250
• Tee Sponsor - $100

The Day of Caring and Sharing is one-of-a-kind-event. In November 2017 former teachers and staff from South Catholic High School gathered on a panel to share funny anecdotes, memorable moments, and fond memories of their days at South. The panel was moderated by former SCHS teacher Ed Hackett and included audience participation. There was also a wine and cheese social, a teacup raffle, and a chance to buy or order South Catholic gear (shirts, sweats, hats, etc.). There was no charge for this fun evening, but a free will offering to the South Catholic Scholarship Fund was  gratefully accepted. In November 2016 Northwest Catholic High School hosted over 200 people from the South Catholic community for The Les Childs' Memorial Concert performed by South Catholic High School alumni. Les Childs was an iconic music teacher at South Catholic who touched the lives of many students while helping to shape the musical careers of dozens more. Les passed away in 1999, but his charismatic persona lives on. Les was remembered in a special way as past members of the SCHS Glee Club, Choralaires, and Swing Choir came together for a fun evening to sing some of Les' favorite songs. Following the concert those in attendance got together for refreshments and to enjoy one another's company and meet Les' sister and brother who drove up from Pennsylvania.
