NWC Student Attends Washington Journalism and Media Conference
Posted 07/20/2017 10:41AM

On June 9, 2017 Northwest Catholic High School junior Taylor Armstrong of Avon began a week as a junior correspondent at the Washington Journalism and Media Conference. Nominated by NWC teacher Mary Roberts, Taylor joined 280 juniors and seniors from around the world and was immersed in the fields of journalism and politics.

While housed at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, the correspondents traveled into Washington DC daily. There they interacted with such guest speakers as April Ryan, CNN White House Correspondent, Brian Lamb, founder of C-SPAN, and Kevin McCarthy of Fox DC at the National Press Corp building. Additionally, Taylor had the opportunity to meet with Senator Christopher Murphy of Connecticut on Capitol Hill where they had a conversation about the importance of unbiased news reporting and important issues including healthcare.

This week spent at WJMC offered students preparing for their future a rare glimpse into the world of journalism and politics. Taylor is grateful for the experience and plans to pursue political journalism as a potential career path.
