The Role of Faith Education at our Catholic High School
In his many comments about the purpose of a true education, Pope Francis has commented, Education is not about knowing things or taking lessons but about being able to use three languages: those of the head, the heart, and the hands... learning so that you can think about what you feel and do, can feel what you think and do, and can do what you feel and think.
-- Pope Francis
Service is Integral to a Christian Education
At Northwest Catholic, all sophomores are required to complete a 25 hour service project, which often turns into a commitment to a service organization that a student voluntarily makes throughout the rest of his or her time at Northwest Catholic. Aside from the required service hours, there are many volunteer opportunities for students often organized by Campus Ministry and announced at Convocation, in class, and through the newsletter.
In addition, each class organizes service projects such as the Freshman Toy Drive and Sophomore Turkey Drive. Sports teams engage in projects like volunteering for Special Olympics or handing out waters at fundraising runs. Seniors can apply for the elective "A Chance to Serve" and spend five days of intense service in the Hartford area. Opportunities to serve abound at our school, and this is one of the many reasons why families choose Northwest Catholic.
