Ms. Barbara Fanning Iorillo attended S.S. Cyril-Methodius School and Northwest Catholic, graduating in 1969. She earned her B.A. in Spanish with a minor in Psychology from Quinnipiac University, graduating 1st in her class! She earned her M.A. in Hispanic and Italian Studies from  Brown University and took courses in Education at Albertus Magnus College and Language and Culture at the University of Salamanca in Spain. She also completed the Faith Formation program online through the University of Dayton.

In 1973 Ms. Iorillo was recruited by the National Security Agency in Washington, D.C. and was hired to run the Federal Women’s Program and Hispanic Program of the Underwater Systems Center in Newport and New London. She trained as an Equal Employment Opportunity Specialist as well as in Management and Personnel.

For as long as she can remember, Ms. Iorillo says she’s been a teacher, starting when she played school with her younger brother. She was tough on him – no recess until he learned his letters and math! And her brother actually skipped kindergarten as a result!

Ms. Iorillo taught pre-K through high school and has run seminars for adults. She also modeled for Sage-Allen Department Stores, and more recently, for Christopher and Banks, a ladies’ clothing store. She has taught at NWC for 29 years.

Ms. Iorillo enjoys baking, reading, painting, traveling, and exploring different cultures, especially Native American cultures. She has three children who graduated from Northwest Catholic in 2000, 2002, and 2004.

Ms. Iorillo loves teaching, loves her students, and loves being part of the Northwest Catholic community!
